Grooming... Rabbits are very meticulous animals, and will spend endless hours grooming themselves. They will generally molt or shed their coat about twice a year. Your rabbit should be brushed during this period of the molt. A small slicker brush will aid in the removal of the excess fur and will prevent the rabbit from ingesting this fur, which could develop into intestinal hairballs. Rabbits cannot vomit, so fur that becomes lodged in the intestinal tract can cause a fatal blockage. Your rabbits nails should be routinely trimmed with a small cat nail clipper. Care must be taken not to trim too close so that you don’t cut into the blood vessel running through each nail. If you do, use some Quikstop, a freshly burnt match applied directly to the end of the nail to cauterize the bleeding.
